Monday Meditation: Planting the Seeds of Inspiration

Inspiration is all around us.  Sometimes it takes us by surprise, taking our breath away and setting us on a new course that we never knew was possible. Has that ever happened to you? Well, it has me!

A few years ago, while my family and I were at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, we were offered a discount on tickets to see Lauren Gunderson’s play The Book of Will. At the top of the second act, there is a monologue that planted a seed of inspiration and changed me forever.

The character, in talking about why they perform says,

“I said to feel again. That’s the miracle of it. The fairies aren’t real but the feeling is.  And it comes to us here, player and groundling alike, again and again here. Come here, come again, feel here, feel again.  History walks here, love is lived here, loss is met and wept for and understood and survived here and not the first time but every time.”

Those words awoke in me a desire to help people to tell stories that mattered, stories with heart.  Over the last three years, I’ve been allowing inspiration to guide me in creating something new, a production company, 3 Bee Productions, that produces theater, film, podcasts, and other creative projects.  (More on that in the coming months.)

Who would have thought that our first project would have happened during a pandemic?  Last Fall, I was invited to produce a devised (basically created from scratch) theater piece for a women’s theater festival that explored the female archetypes of the maiden, mother, and crone.  What started as a play that was to be performed on stage turned into a 40-minute film.

Today, I’m excited to share with you 3 Bee Productions’ first creation, Beyond the Mask which explores the story of a blocked writer’s journey during the time of Covid to find inspiration in an unexpected place.

How does all of this relate to “Today I Choose”?  It’s my practice that allows me to follow inspiration.  My daily intention setting, meditation, and energy work are the foundation upon which I build everything. They help me to hear what is mine to do, they connect me to ideas, resources, and people that allow me to expand and grow, and they keep me connected to my heart, my truth so that the work I do makes a difference.

Inspiration can take us places we never knew existed.  It cracks us open to feelings and knowings that were never there before allowing something magical to emerge.

What is inspiring you today?  Where might inspiration ignite a spark in you that allows you to create something new?  Are you open?  Are you ready?   Let’s go!

With Love & Intention,

Melissa
